June 3, 2025. For immediate release! Philadelphia-based TTRPG publisher Plus One Exp is celebrating Pride 2025 by promoting LGBTQ+ games and creators.
"We publish and play queer-designed and queer-themed games all year long, but in June, we're loud about it," said publisher and editor-in-chief Tony Vasinda. With 34 titles from two dozen LGBTQ+ writers and designers and a predominately queer leadership team, we're very proud of the excellent and incredibly talented creators we publish and partner with and excited to promote their work.
In addition to creating a collection of games from queer authors and designers, we've selected five games from our team of queer designers and writers that focus on LGBTQ+ stories, themes, media, and experiences. Games in both collections are discounted 5% for June, with subscribers to RPG Zine Club, where many of the queer-authored games debuted, getting an additional June discount.
From Plus One's own content necromancer, KeganExe. In this homage to the very queer Locked Tomb trilogy, become one of the necromancers protecting the planet Hecate from the Corvus Dominion. Based on Spencer Campbell's Lumen, this game for 2-6 players and a GM includes rules for character creation, action resolution, and dark magics.
"The pulpy goodness in Moonlight on Roseville Beach is a satisfying blend of familiar themes and genres that have been mixed together in such a way that feels absolutely unique. Between the occult mysteries, the vibrant queer community setting, and intense nostalgia, I can see this becoming many people's comfort game. It somehow manages to evoke all those guilty pleasure feelings of reaching for a vintage pulp story while also taking full advantage of contemporary knowledge of queer identities and cultures to create a thoughtfully inclusive experience."
Yeonsoo Kim, Women are Werewolves
From the clever corvid brains of R. Rook Studio! Moonlight on Roseville Beach: A Queer Game of Disco & Cosmic Horror is a tabletop roleplaying game about a queer beach town in 1979 and the residents who solve its strange, occult mysteries and protect it from elder gods, weird monsters, and greedy real-estate developers. All you need to play are friends, imagination, and some six-sided dice.
From one of Indie Tabletop's sharpest horror writers! In this gothic horror one-shot built upon the bones of Trophy Dark, your group of thieves dives into Dorian Gray's estate to steal his painting. If they come out alive, they will be forever changed.
A romantic catastrophe from adistasterqueer games! A diceless duet (two-player) game with rock-paper-scissors mechanics, UST (that's "Unresolved Sapphic Tension") is a storygame of two oblivious lesbians and their unrealized reciprocal attraction.
"I Have the High Ground might be worth the price of admission just to get these tips to adapt and use with other duet storytelling games." Seamus Coneely, Cannibal Halfling
From Plus One Exp friend Jess Levine of Jumpgate Games. I Have the High Ground is a game of duels: words and wits, melodramas and and maneuvers. This collaborative tabletop duet game is GM-less, genre-neutral, and takes 1-2 hours to play. You can hear it played on Party of One, The Neon Caster, and Chicks with Dice, or watch this short video by Philippa Mort for an overview of the game!
For 2025, Plus One Exp worked with artist and Philadelphia neighbor Robbi A. Burns (email) to develop a 2025 Pride banner and bookmark that captured both the frustration and exhaustion of LGBTQ+ people as well as the queer determination to find courage, joy, and hope amid current crisis and ongoing cowardly attempts to intimidate queer people and roll back advances in queer rights.
Robbi is also a member of Gossamer//Coast and a co-creator of both Candleberry Jam (released through Plus One Exp's Zine Club in 2024) and the forthcoming storygame Hinterlight.
